Plumbing Tips For a Clogged Toilet

A clogged toilet is never an enjoyable experience for any homeowner. There are a few tricks to help clear the clog, but when that fails, it is time to call a Tacoma Plumber to help alleviate the clog. It is a messy job that no one wants to deal with. If you would rather skip the headache, mess, and time it takes to clear the clog yourself, then Spartan Rooter will be able to help you get your toilet flowing again quickly.

When trying to clear a clogged toilet, the first thing you should reach for is some rubber gloves to protect yourself, and your hands from any messy debris. Then reach for your plunger. A majority of clogged toilets can be cleared with a plunger. A plunger can also unclog tubs and sinks. Place the plunger completely over the hole in the bottom of the toilet, sealing the hole. Give the plunger a gentle first push, to get the air out of the seal. Then plunge vigorously in and out, several times, maintaining the seal over the hole. Plunge fifteen to twenty times if needed. Most clogs should clear with a few good plunges.

If plunging does not work, then it is time to use the drain snake. Uncoil the snake down the toilet, until you encounter the clog. Try to go slightly past the clog, and then wind the snake back up, bringing the clog with it. If the clog is still there, do this procedure several times, until the clog is broken up or removed completely from the drain. You may also try pouring hot, but not quite boiling, water down the toilet drain, to try and break up any debris in the drain, making it easier to remove or plunge the clog.

Try and avoid using chemical drain cleaners. They rarely work, and if they do, they work slowly. Then you have a bowl full of corrosive chemicals sitting in your toilet bowl. The chemicals can ruin or cause damage to both your toilet and pipes, if left to sit, and could even make the clog worse. If you have already tried the chemicals, run water into the toilet and let it sit for awhile to drain through the clog. Be sure to use gloves and goggles when plunging, as not to get the chemicals on your skin or in your eyes.

When all of the above fails, or you do not want to deal with the mess yourself, call Spartan Rooter to come get your toilets flowing again. A qualified and experienced plumber will come and clear the clog quickly, and done right the first time. Save yourself the headache, time, and mess by calling a professional plumber to come and get your pipes flowing again.
