Remodeling Your Kitchen

Remodeling your kitchen can make a dramatic impact on the look and feel of your home.  When you are thinking about remodeling your kitchen you should first create an idea list as well as associated costs for your ideas.  Next, you should determine just what budget amount you have to devote towards the remodel.  Then, taking the list of ideas determine a priority and then find out how many of those ideas can be accomplished within the set budget.

Inexpensive remodeling ideas include:

  • Re-painting.  Changing the wall color by re-painting can inexpensively and drastically change the look and feel of the room.
  • Lighting.  If you have a bar or island consider adding mini-chandeliers for a dramatic change to the room as well as to add additional lighting.  Changing other light fixtures will also change the room’s appearance without a lot of work.
  • Hardware.  Change the hardware on cabinets to change the style and feel of your kitchen. Hardware changes can range from inexpensive to pricey depending on which type and style you choose.
  • Update appliances.  A quick way to update the feel and function of your kitchen is to upgrade and update your appliances.  When working within a budget be sure to find appliance that offer the features you want with the prices you can afford.

If you’re ready to invest thousands of dollars in a complete kitchen remodel consider these changes that will cost more but create a lasting impact:

  • Flooring.  Choose a quality tile to update your kitchen flooring.  While quality flooring will cost more, it will be more durable and add an element of luxury to your remodel.
  • Cabinetry.  When you decide to change out the cabinetry in your kitchen you are free not only to choose a new style, but also free to create a new design layout as well.  When you are removing your old cabinetry the only items that you must work around in creating a new layout are plumbing and electrical or gas lines for the sink and the stove.
  • Countertops.  Somewhere between an inexpensive remodel and an expensive remodel can be the price of changing out your countertops.  You can choose countertops that come in materials from laminates to natural stone.  When picking a countertop surface choose one that will be durable enough for your needs, comes in a color that will accent your kitchen, and meets your budget criteria.

Whichever choices you make in remodeling your kitchen you will find that every change you make whether large or small helps to make the room feel refreshed and new.  The most important thing to remember when designing and completing your remodel is to make sure that your new space is not only aesthetically pleasing but functions well for your family’s needs as well.
